Why we’re switching to a reusable stainless steel measuring scoop

Minder plastic, meer impact: waarom we overstappen op een RVS maatschep

We’ve removed the plastic measuring scoop from our protein powders and replaced it with a reusable stainless steel measuring scoop. Below, you can read why we made this decision, what this means for you, and how to continue measuring out your protein powder.

Why are you removing the plastic scoop from the packaging?

Because a loose plastic measuring scoop often ends up in general waste after use rather than being recycled. A reusable stainless steel measuring scoop lasts for years and replaces disposable scoops time and time again.

On paper, our plastic scoops were recyclable. In practice, however, small, loose plastic items are difficult to sort and often end up in general waste anyway. By leaving the scoop out of the packaging, every bag of protein powder now contains one less piece of single-use plastic. That’s a concrete, measurable step that aligns with how we view our packaging: no unnecessary additions, not even in the plastic wrapping.

Why have you chosen stainless steel?

Stainless steel is strong, hygienic and can be reused time and time again. Unlike plastic, it doesn’t absorb odours or flavours and doesn’t wear out after a few months’ use.

Stainless steel doesn’t rust and is easy to clean, meaning a single measuring scoop will last for years. Our measuring scoop is robustly built with an Ekopura engraving, so you can easily spot it in your kitchen drawer. The idea is simple: buy it once instead of throwing away a new plastic scoop with every bag.

How much protein powder does the measuring scoop hold?

The measuring scoop is designed for a standard portion of approximately 25 grams. The exact dosage instructions are printed on each packet, as the density varies slightly between different powders.

Would you like to know how much protein you need each day and how a serving fits into that? You can read all about it in our guide on how much protein you need each day and what protein powder actually is and does. That way, you can be sure you’re scooping out the right amount, whether you’re using whey or a plant-based variety. If you’re unsure about a serving size, measure it once using kitchen scales and remember how full the measuring scoop is.

How do you keep the stainless steel measuring scoop clean?

Rinse the scoop under warm water or pop it in the dishwasher. Stainless steel doesn’t retain any powder residue and dries quickly.

As stainless steel doesn’t rust or absorb odours, the scoop remains hygienic to use, even if you switch between flavours. A quick rinse and time to dry are enough to get it ready for the next serving. Store it in a dry place, and it will look as good as new for years to come.

Why isn’t there simply a free stainless steel measuring scoop in every bag?

Because a scoop that you deliberately choose and keep is actually reused. An extra one in every bag would simply shift the problem: scoops would still end up piling up.

One measuring scoop is enough for all your bags of protein powder, year in, year out. By offering it separately and giving it as a free gift with two bags or more, you’ll have exactly one at home and the loose plastic will disappear from the packaging. That’s the crux of the idea: fewer items, used for longer.

How can you get the stainless steel measuring scoop?

If you order two bags of protein powder or more, you’ll get the measuring scoop for free. It’s also available separately in our online shop for 2 euros.

If you already have a scoop at home (whether it’s an old plastic one or the stainless steel version), you can simply carry on using it. If you’d like to switch to the reusable version, simply add the measuring scoop to your basket via the pop-up. That way, we make the reusable choice just as easy as the old one.

What will change for you as a customer?

Your next order will no longer include a plastic scoop in the packaging. The contents, quality and serving size of your protein powder will remain exactly the same.

The only change is to the scoop, not to the product itself. Your powder, the portion size and the way you use it won’t change. Only the loose plastic will be removed from the packaging, so you’ll be bringing a little less waste into your home with every bag.

Frequently asked questions

Does my protein powder still come with a plastic scoop?

No. New bags are supplied without a plastic measuring scoop. You can measure out your protein using the reusable stainless steel measuring scoop or a scoop you already have.

Is the stainless steel measuring scoop dishwasher-safe?

Yes. Stainless steel is dishwasher-safe and won’t rust. You can, of course, also rinse it under warm water.

How many grams of powder does the measuring scoop hold?

The measuring scoop is designed for a portion of approximately 25 grams. Always check the packaging of your powder for the exact measurement, as this may vary slightly depending on the variety.

Can I keep using my old plastic scoop?

Yes. If you still have a plastic scoop at home, by all means use it up. There’s no need to throw it away: reusing it is the whole idea.

Need a new bag? Take a look at our protein powders: if you order two bags or more, the stainless steel measuring scoop will automatically be included in your order.
