What we do

On this page you can read what we do in practice: what goes into our products, how we package them and how we have a tree planted through Tree-Nation for every order in our online shop.

Ingredients

What's inside

We make food supplements and protein powders without unnecessary extras. Besides the main ingredients, they only contain what serves a purpose. Each product's ingredient list shows everything it contains. Our products contain no GMOs, soy or artificial sweeteners and flavourings; where a product contains a sweetener, it is stevia.

Organic
Organic means that the raw materials come from farms that work without synthetic fertilisers and without synthetic pesticides, and that the whole chain is inspected for this. Ekopura is inspected by Skal (NL-BIO-01). Four products are certified organic: Whey Natural Organic, Casein Organic, Vegan Protein Organic and Vitamin C Acerola Organic. You can recognise them by 'Organic' in the name. Whey and casein are dairy. Organic dairy means that the milk comes from certified dairy farms: the cows get organic feed without GMOs, they have access to pasture as soon as the weather and the soil allow it, at least 60% of their daily ration is roughage such as grass, hay or silage (in the first months after calving this may be 50%), and antibiotics are not given preventively. Whey Natural Organic and Casein Organic are made with that milk.

Vegan
Vegan means that there are no animal ingredients in the product and that no animal-derived processing aids are used in production. Most of our products are vegan and registered with The Vegan Society, which sets conditions for ingredients, production and animal testing. Whey and casein fall outside this: they are milk proteins.

Packaging

Minimalist packaging

Our powders and supplements come in a stand-up pouch instead of a tub. The pouch is small and light.

Since February 2025 there is no plastic scoop in our protein powders. A reusable stainless steel scoop is available separately.

For the next version of the pouch we are working on a better closure. As soon as the new pouch is there, you will read here what changes.

Omega 3 from algae

Algae oil and fish oil

Our omega 3 comes from the microalga Schizochytrium sp. Fish get EPA and DHA from algae in their food.

Origin: our algae are grown in a closed system. Fish oil comes from caught fish.
Contaminants: dioxins and PCBs accumulate in fish. Fish oil is therefore refined, among other reasons to stay below the European limits. Our algae grow outside the marine food chain and do not come into contact with them.
Allergens: fish is a regulated allergen. Our capsules contain no fish.
Taste: fish oil can leave a fishy aftertaste. Our algae oil tastes neutral.
Diet: suitable for vegetarians and vegans, registered with The Vegan Society.

The oil is produced in Europe.

Planting trees

With Tree-Nation

For every order in our online shop, we have a tree planted through Tree-Nation. After your order you receive a link to choose your tree and the project yourself. If you don't choose, the tree is planted anyway. See here how many trees that adds up to.

Tree-Nation is a platform for tree-planting projects around the world. Most of our trees have been planted in projects in Tanzania, Kenya and Senegal.
