Ekopura Casein Organic is a natural, organic casein protein powder containing 78% protein: a 25-gram serving provides 19.5 grams of protein.
It contains just one ingredient: organic milk casein concentrate, also known as micellar casein. The protein contains all the essential amino acids. No flavourings, no sweeteners, no colourings and no added sugar. One serving of two tablespoons provides 91 kcal, 2.5 grams of carbohydrates (contains naturally occurring sugars from the milk), 0.4 grams of fat, 0 grams of fibre and 0.25 grams of salt. Per 100 grams, this amounts to 78 grams of protein, 362 kcal and 1.5 grams of fat, making the powder low in fat.
Ekopura Casein Organic provides 19.5 grams of protein per serving, and protein is covered by EU-approved health claims relating to muscle mass and bones.
Protein contributes to a growth in muscle mass.
Protein contributes to the maintenance of muscle mass.
Protein contributes to the maintenance of normal bones.
These claims apply to a product that is at least a source of protein: at least 12 per cent of its energy must come from protein. This powder is high in protein, with approximately 86 per cent of its energy coming from protein. Food supplements should not be used as a substitute for a varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.
Casein protein and whey both come from milk, but casein is digested slowly and whey quickly.
In practice, many people take casein in the evening or before bed, and whey around the time of their workout. This is a matter of habit, not a rule: you can use both at any time of day, even together. Both provide protein, and the same established contribution applies to protein. Ekopura Casein Organic contains 78% protein, whilst our Whey Natural Organic contains 80%.
To make a protein shake, mix two tablespoons of casein powder (25 grams) with 250 ml of water, milk or nut milk in a shaker or blender.
Blend until the shake is creamy: the powder dissolves well in a shaker or blender, whereas using a spoon is more likely to leave lumps. There is no measuring spoon included in the packet, so use two tablespoons or weigh out 25 grams. The stainless steel ‘Measuring Scoop’ is available separately.
Ekopura Casein Organic is a natural protein powder with no sweetener or flavouring, so it has a neutral taste.
When mixed with water on its own, you can taste the milky base of the powder. If you’d like more flavour, mix the serving with milk or nut milk, or stir it into porridge, yoghurt or a smoothie with fruit or cocoa. If you’d like to try it first, there’s a 25-gram sample, exactly one serving. If you’re looking for a vanilla- or cocoa-flavoured protein shake, take a look at Whey Protein Vanilla or Whey Cacao.
The recommended daily intake of protein is 50 grams, and one portion of Ekopura Casein Organic provides 19.5 grams of that.
If you exercise a lot, your requirements can quickly increase: here’s how to calculate your protein requirements. It’s also possible to have too much: we recommend 1 to 3 servings of 25 grams per day, and you should not exceed that upper limit. You can combine it with other Ekopura products, such as magnesium, omega-3 or our other protein powders. Stick to the recommended daily intake for each product. If you’re also using other protein powders, add up your total protein intake. If you’re taking medication or have a medical condition, please consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Yes, Ekopura Casein Organic contains milk and lactose, and milk is one of the fourteen allergens that must be declared in the EU.
Casein is a milk protein, and the product consists of 100% organic milk casein concentrate. That is the only ingredient: no carrier, sweetener or flavouring has been added, and no other allergens have been included. If you have a food allergy or intolerance and are unsure about a specific allergen, please ask us and we’ll look into it for you.
No, this powder contains lactose, so Ekopura Casein Organic is not suitable for those with lactose intolerance or a milk allergy.
The carbohydrates, 2.5 grams per serving, are naturally occurring milk sugars. The amount of lactose a person can tolerate varies from person to person; if in doubt, consult your doctor or dietitian. It is, however, suitable for vegetarians: casein comes from milk and not from the animal itself, and no animal-derived enzymes or additives are used in its production. It is not suitable for vegans, as it is a dairy product. If you’re looking for a protein powder without milk, take a look at our plant-based protein powders, such as ‘Vegan Protein Organic’ with 84% protein.
Ekopura Casein Organic is certified organic: the milk comes from certified organic dairy farms in southern Germany and the Alpine region.
The packaging bears the EU organic logo, and beneath the logo are the control code NL-BIO-01 and the ‘EU agriculture’ designation, meaning the milk comes from the European Union. ‘Organic’ means, amongst other things, organic animal feed free from genetic engineering; the cultivation of that feed using only plant protection products explicitly permitted by the organic regulation; and an annual inspection of the entire supply chain by an accredited body. You can read more about what ‘organic’ means in our guide.
Our milk comes from dairy farms in southern Germany and the Alpine region, where the cows go outside as soon as the weather and the ground allow. On top of the European welfare rules that apply to all dairy cattle, they get at least 60% roughage in the daily ration (grass, hay or silage), feed that largely comes from the farm itself or from the region, and a dry lying area with straw or other suitable natural bedding on a solid floor.
Yes, the milk used for Ekopura Casein Organic is heated briefly at a low temperature, and we use A1 milk from organic cows in Europe.
During processing, the milk is held at 60 degrees for around 15 to 20 seconds and then cooled again, so that the protein structure remains intact and the casein is not denatured. Apart from that, only ultrafiltration takes place. Most organic dairy cows in Europe are A1 cows, and this also applies to the farms where our milk comes from.
No, Ekopura Casein Organic is not a weight-loss product: no claim linking protein to weight loss has been established in the EU.
A protein shake does, however, increase your total protein intake without adding too many extra calories: a 25-gram serving provides 19.5 grams of protein and 91 kcal. It is a dietary supplement and not a meal replacement, so it does not replace breakfast, lunch or dinner. If you want to lose weight, seek guidance from a dietitian or your GP. Food supplements should not be used as a substitute for a varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.
Ekopura Casein Organic is intended for adults; if you are a child, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, please consult a healthcare professional first.
The dosage is intended for adults. Children require a different dose; please consult your GP, pharmacist or child health clinic for advice. As this is a powder, a smaller portion may be appropriate, and you should discuss the exact amount with one of them. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, please consult your doctor or midwife before using this or any other dietary supplement.
Store Ekopura Casein Organic tightly closed at room temperature, dry, out of direct sunlight and out of reach of children.
Close the pouch properly after use: if it stays open, the powder draws in moisture and starts to clump. Use a dry spoon to measure out a serving. The best before date is printed at the bottom of the packaging. We guarantee a minimum shelf life of twelve months.
A 500 gram pouch contains 20 servings of 25 grams, so at one serving a day it lasts you almost three weeks.
Take two servings a day and a pouch is finished after ten days. If you prefer to reorder automatically, you can receive Ekopura Casein Organic on subscription with 5% off. You choose from five delivery frequencies, and you can adjust, pause or cancel the subscription at any time.
